Wrexham Recycling Centre. 150 Kw Multiple Solar PV arrays
Ash Waste Services are one of the UK’s fastest growing companies specialising in waste transfer and recycling and Biomass wood chip production. The company has always had an insatiable appetite to deploy renewable technologies wherever possible, and their main site is no exception to this rule.
MAXIMISING AVAILABLE SPACE
Solar PV Battery Systems originally fitted a 50 Kw PV array on the main waste transfer warehouse roof back in 2014, we were then given the opportunity to come up with a solution two years later as the sites electricity consumption increased significantly after ASH waste services had installed a huge new wood chip biomass plant.
The biomass plant (located in its own dedicated building) was installed under the RHI, and is used by the company to dry out household refuse in order to make it much lighter for transportation and of course have far greater combustibility.
The downside was the amount of power being consumed whilst the Biomass plant was in operation. Given our brief and working very closely with the client, we were able to overcome a lack of available roof space at the site and offer this amazing custom built system.
Solar PV Battery Systems were not finished there, next up the perimeter block walling was utilised to accommodate an additional custom built 40 Kw Façade’ solar array.
The end result is a stunning system, offering great use of the sites available space, and a significant contribution to the company’s electricity savings.

The full suite of systems for our client was completed when we installed a smaller 15Kw array at the company’s new office building at the main entrance of the site.
Producing enough power to cover the operation of computer and telephone systems within the building, as well as give a very healthy contribution to the power requirements of the air conditioning systems during the summer months.
