Case Study: ELLIS EGGS
ABERDARE, WALES. 100 Kw Rooftop Solar PV array
Established now well into their 50th year of trading, award winning Ellis Eggs of Aberdare are Wales’s leading supplier of Free Range fresh farm eggs, The company supply to leading supermarket chains Asda, Tesco and Morrisons and have been acknowledged by their own industry recently, when receiving the coveted Egg Packer of the year title at the National Egg and Poultry awards ceremony in London.
SPLIT ARRAY SYSTEM
Jason and Wendy Ellis owners of the family run business recently acquired this amazing new facility at Hirwaun industrial estate, Aberdare, to continue the company’s progression and by doing so managed to secure grant funding from the Welsh assembly. As well as investing in state of the art egg tracking and packing production line machinery, high up on the list of priorities for Mr and Mrs Ellis was a reduction in their carbon output and green credentials. Solar PV Battery Systems were referred to Ellis Eggs by one of our best clients whom we have undertaken numerous successful projects for previously. Our recommendation after consulting with the client and previous electricity consumption data for the factory, was to install an East to West split array system giving a larger generation window of power whilst at the same time covering their on-site peak demand loads.
We also designed the system very much with the future in mind to accommodate battery storage and EV (Electric vehicle) charging stations to be deployed as part of phase 2 of the project.
The system as expected is performing extremely well, covering a significant portion of the factories previously imported electricity requirements. A review in 12 months’ time factoring the systems performance, against any increases to the factories infrastructure (additional power requirements/machinery etc) before determining suitable battery storage requirements.
