Case Study: Sunrise Eggs
Seagrave Nr Sileby Leicestershire.
354 Kw Multiple Solar PV arrays (Phase 1)
The brief from our client Sunrise Eggs Ltd was to reduce electricity consumption at multiple Free-Range and pullet rearing sites including the company’s main packaging and office headquarters at Seagrave near Sileby Leicestershire.
EXPANSION PROGRAMME
The expansion programme to an already impressive existing portfolio of Solar PV arrays, was to combat against their ever-increasing electricity costs and reduce their current level of carbon emissions. Of even greater importance to the company was fulfilling their commitment in having a very strict environmental profile.
Sunrise Eggs are a second-generation family run business founded by Tony Crawley in the late 1960’s. today run by his son’s Phillip and Ady Crawley the company package and distribute over 4 million fresh free-range eggs per week to major supermarket chains and a variety of other small retail outlets throughout the UK. Having previously installed numerous systems for Sunrise Eggs, it was a pleasure to be called back again by Phillip Crawley to undertake his company’s latest series of renewable projects.
The projects were to be split into two phases starting with a series of rural free-range and pullet rearing houses. Followed by the more challenging extensions to multiple buildings at the company’s main site.
The Free-range unit at the lower end of the Ab Kettleby site benefits from an East to West ‘split system’ which offers an early morning boost to the site before the upper south facing unit 86 kW array takes over the bulk of daytime generation. Later in the afternoon the West facing array section cuts in to provide a full days generation window of free solar power.
