Case Study: Sunrise Eggs

Seagrave Nr Sileby Leicestershire.
363 Kw Multiple Solar PV arrays (Phase 2)

Having completed phase 1 of the projects for Sunrise Eggs, our installation teams then moved on to the more challenging fully live and operational factory site at the company’s headquarters in Seagrave.

Using our many years of experience within the Solar industry and carefully pre-planning the schedule of works, our highly skilled teams of roofing personnel and electrical engineers were able to integrate the systems seamlessly – and without causing any disruption to the day to day running of this busy site.

EAST-WEST SPLIT POSITIONING

Having already installed this 200 kW system (above) for Sunrise Eggs at Seagrave in 2014. The series of extensions to be installed on various other buildings across their complex.

One of the units covered as part of the main site expansion was the South facing ‘Dog Leg’ shed, which received 86 kW of Trina 310 watt solar modules powered by two SMA inverters a SMA Core 1 40/50 and 20,000 TL/30.

The second system installed at Seagrave benefitted from an 86 Kw ‘East-West’ split system giving a longer generation window of consistent even power. The clever positioning of the solar array (hosting the solar panels on two elevations facing each other) future-proofed the system for easier access for maintenance and making the cleansing of the solar modules bi-annually a much simpler exercise.

The existing SMA Tri-power inverters at Sunrise HQ were all serviced and tested during installation of the extensions.

A total of 4 other poultry units were covered with additional extension systems throughout Sunrise Eggs portfolio of existing free- range sites including a 16,000-bird unit at the main site. Ranging from 25/40 Kw in capacity, the systems were a top up to almost wipe out our client’s electricity bills.

Smart meter monitoring was also installed at every site giving our client daily performance visibility, and export limitation devices were required at two of the sites due to restrictions from the distribution network operator. An export limitation device enables clients with existing systems (who are already up to their maximum allowance capacity of solar with the grid network operator) to increase the size of their system and generate more power.

Sunrise Eggs Free-Range site at Big Lane, Sileby was another that received a power ‘boost’ with a 30 kW extension. The original system attached to lucrative existing feed in tariff, also benefitted from a full maintenance service schedule from Solar PV Battery Systems during installation.
