SWIMMING POOL RUNNING COSTS ‘SLASHED BY SOLAR POWER’

CASE STUDY: 10KW ARRAY USING A GSE INTEGRATION INSET SYSTEM

When client Phill Crawley contacted us about a number of commercial projects to be undertaken over at Sunrise Eggs in Loughborough, Leicestershire, he was also very keen to for us to put a plan together to eradicate his ‘ever increasing’ running costs of the swimming pool at his beautiful home. Never the cheapest of entities to run and maintain, swimming pools use bucket loads of electricity to power heat and circulation pumps and other associated plant.

INTEGRATED LOOK

Understandably Phill wanted to protect the aesthetic look of his property, and in particular voiced concerns of the solar modules creating a detrimental impact on this gorgeous slate covered pool room. Working closeley together with Phill, we designed and specified a 10 kW array using a GSE intergration inset system which we were confident would leave our client totally satisfied with the end result.

During the pre-planning planning stage of the project Cad visuals were provided, depicting what the array would look when completed (right).

The system comprised of 28 JA Solar All Black Monocrystalline solar modules, finished off with a custom made ‘real lead’ apron at the bottom of the array. The system was expertly fitted by our main roofing team in just 2 days, and this included stripping completely the slates situated under the footprint of the solar modules. Together with some intricate roofing works by the team in cutting the slates near the ridge line as well as the aforementioned lead work, both client and installer were over the moon with the final result of this project.

Another view of the beautifully finished inset GSE integration system, which lend themselves so well on slate tiled roofs.

The system which was paired up to an SMA 8.0 three phase inverter which will generate our client around 9,500 kwhr’s of free power per annum, dramatically reducing the running costs of the swimming pool as well as contributing to the homes electricity requirements.

Solar PV Battery Systems will follow up with a full analysis of the systems performance and Mr Crawley’s reduced electricity bills, to determine the annual figures of generation excess from the system (exported power) in order to ascertain what level of battery storage will be applicable.
